Day Three: movie + celeb shoving + music + comedy + hunger + lameness

Yesterday was ridiculously busy. We got up pretty early…me not feeling so well…from the Margaritas and the vodka and the red bull. Anyway we hauled it to Eccles for the premiere of “Frozen River.”, Frozen River was fantastic. Going into the movie, all I knew was it was written and directed by Courtney Hunt and had been featured in the Sundance short program a few years back. With no expectations, I was more than pleasantly surprised. More on that later…

Post Movie, LF ran off to a panel and I went home to shower. We met some NYC boys on Friday night in the music business who put us on the list for entry into the ASCAP music café and had invited us to join them to catch the five person line up yesterday afternoon.

So I shower and hurried to meet up with Leigh and the boys. I get down to Main street, already running a little late to find a massive amount of people standing and gawking on the sidewalk. No one was moving. Fed up with the crowd and now officially late, I weave my way through the people Manhattan style. As I’m hurrying up the hill, out of nowhere I’m shoved into a snow bank. Like full on, get-the-hell-out-of-my-way-lady shoved into the snow. Was there a fire? Free swag bags being handed out? NO! I got shoved into the snow because two women wanted to catch a glimpse of Corey Feldman. COREY FELDMAN?!?!?!? I got up, brushed off the snow and in my loudest, meanest voice I shouted at the women, “I mean we all loved Goonies, but really ladies, Corey Feldman?”

Anyway, I got to the music café irritated and tired…which was the theme for the day. We spent the next five hours listening to some great artists…Ingrid Michaelson, Sea Wolf, and Pat Monahan (lead singer of Train) we're the best of the crew…although Pat Monahan kind of acted like an asshole…hopefully it was just an act.

Then we left music behind us and headed to Sidecar to get in line for Seth’s Sweet show. It was hilarious and the highlight of the day. He had a great line-up – John Veiner, David Wain, Nick Kroll with Jason Sudekis acting as the Kevin Eubanks of the Sweet show. Seth was the funniest and not just because he is my friend. Nick Kroll gets my non-friend vote for funniest comedian and it’s not just because he’s a cute jewish boy…he’s really quite hilarious. Last note about the show = Jason Sudekis has a good looking strike beard…pulls it off real well...almost makes him as hot as Seth Meyers. No wait, that is impossible. (Note: As much as I was irritated at the two tools that shoved me into the snow, I would have done the same in the effort to catch a glimpse of Seth Meyers. I heart him in a little school girl crush kinda way. It is retarded.)

Post comedy we scoured the streets for a restaurant with a table for three. We were starving as the last time we’d eaten was before Frozen River and nothing had availability…except the Prime steakhouse at the end of Main. I told the hostess that I’d name my first born after her if she could get us a table, so it looks like I’m naming my first kid Erin.

After steak and wine and potatoes, the Weez was exhausted + drunk/hungover + full + and decided to leave LF and The Colonel downtown to party and head home to bed. I know…me = the lamest person in Park City on Saturday night…especially since I missed both the EW and the Motorola parties. There is no excuse, I was lame. But I slept well and now I'm headed to Deer Valley to ski with some old friends.

Frozen River

In both a heart-wrenching and heart-warming fashion, Hunt intertwines the desperate determination of two mothers doing what they can for the sake of their children. All I knew about the film going in was two women somehow came together to help one another smuggle immigrants across the border from Canada. Coming out of the film I was amazed that I actually didn’t want the women to get caught.

Both Misty Upham and Melissa Leo were fabulous and the cinematography was beautiful…unbelievable that it was a low budget film. It won the Grand Jury Prize for Best Dramatic Freature, so check it out when it makes its way to the theaters.

Sundance Day Two: Skiing + Zoom + Parties

Day Two was supposed to be low-key. We slept in, I went skiing – good day on the slopes as it was at least 20 degrees – and then we got ready to go out. The Colonel got into town just in time to join us for dinner at Zoom – Robert Redford’s restaurant which is AMAZING!!!! It is so amazing that I passed up tickets to the Opening Night Premiere of “In Bruges” because eating there was more important. And it was worth it...except next time I should not kick off a night of heavy drinking with a Zoom margarita. Post dinner activities = going from Zoom to Easy Street to the Kenneth Cole party.

Side Note: Sundance Parties

The Sundance party scene needs a brief explanation. There are some fabulous parties, but getting into them can be an awful experience…even if you’re on “the list.” During the first weekend of the festival local Park City bars turn from Doolan’s, Harry O’s, and J.B. Mulligan’s into NYC and LA hotspots like Stereo, Tao and Marquee. So basically we wait in line to go to the same clubs we try to avoid in Manhattan to party with celebrities we see day in and day out at the bank, grocery store, etc. It is the most ridiculous thing…I mean really dumb. But not so dumb and ridiculous that I don’t make sure I’m on every list possible so I can get into the parties. I know I’m a hypocrite.

Kenneth Cole Party at "Stereo"

So back to the Kenneth Cole party. LF + Colonel + Me get to “Stereo” to a line full of people trying to whine/bully their way into the bar. It is 6 degrees outside and no one was getting in because the bar was at full capacity…people were literally flipping out.

There were these two girls totally losing it because they couldn’t get in…yelling at the doorman – “we are ON THE LIST!!!…calling their friends who were inside…more yelling. Then there were the three guys next to us that were all (in meathead voice), “um, do you not know who we are, yo?” I was cold and a bit tipsy & I thought it would be fun to play with these assholes. Turning to the boys I chimed in with “I don’t know who you are, but WE are really important. (turning back to the Colonel) And should actually be on the VIP list.” (I mentioned before that the Zoom Margarita may have been a bad idea) The boys rolled their eyes and looked at us like we were crazy.

But about two seconds later, the door opens and our friend Danny points the three of us out to the doorman. We walked into the party leaving the meathead dudes and screaming LA girls outside to freeze…but not before I turned to the boys and softly whispered, “I told you we were important.”

The party was super fun. Our friends already had a table when we got there, so it was cool to just sit back and watch the LA crowd act up and spot celebrities mingling about. Most important take aways = Woody Harrelson is much better looking in person, so is Emily Mortimer and I have no business drinking vodka on the rocks with red bull chasers.

Sundance Day One: It's colder than Vernal up in here!

Day One kicked off like this…wake up, shower, eat breakfast, get dressed and head to the mountain for a quick lesson to warm up my legs for the season. First problem = it was 13 degrees outside. Second problem = I misread the temp and 13 was actually the high…when I left it was 1 degree. This made for an awful day on the mountain. So I took my lesson, took a few runs by myself and waited for LF to get in town so we could get settled into our condo and begin Sundancing.

LF arrived a little late and we headed up to Main St. to pick up our tickets and grab a bite to eat. We ended up at Butcher’s, my local Park City hang out. I spent so much time there last year that I felt like Norm from Cheers. We walked around in the freezing cold until we could no longer manage and then headed home to rest up before dinner.

We had dinner at 350 Main which was nice, but we got stuck at a table downstairs with large parties and couples. It wasn’t so much the atmosphere we sought and you pretty much go to 350 Main for the atmosphere. We finished dinner pretty late and Big Meal + Cocktails + Elevation + Exhaustion + Married couple scene = LF & Weezie losing steam fast. So we decided to make it an early night, except we ended up at Butcher’s for “one more drink” on the way home. This is how it starts. Ugh. Lots of drinking. And lots of boys makes Weezie forget about Big Meal + Cocktails + Elevation + Exhaustion + Married couple scene. We ended up chatting with these really hot boys who turned out to be totally douches. I man total douches. I swear they were working on material for “Mormons gone Wild” because all they could talk about was how they used to be Mormon but now they were going to the dark side. LF and I weren’t interested in joining them on their journey (or taking showers with them…though they kept asking), so we ditched them and went home...need rest for big day of skiing tomorrow.

Explanation: It's colder than Vernal

Ok - last year when we were out at Sundance, LF and I cracked up every time we watched the weather because Vernal, a small town in Utah was always 20+ degrees colder than everywhere else. It's 19 in Park City, 22 in Salt Lake City and -4 in Vernal. So we started saying, "It's colder than Vernal in here."

One day I said this in a cab full of non-Utah folk, so I had to explain it and one of my cab mates thought it was so funny she wrote about it on NPR.

Welcome to Sundance!!!

I’m in Park City for the next 10 days for Sundance. I’ve been in town for a day and a half so far and while I’ve enjoyed skiing & relaxation, I’m eager for the action to begin.

The most exciting event thus far resulted from me being a total idiot the first night I was in town. I arrived at the hotel relatively early and since LF wasn’t arriving until much later, I decided to walk over to the outlet mall. I forgot to pack a swim suit, so decided to pick one up, but ended up getting sidetracked at the Harry & David. My mama has been looking for this Red Pepper Relish they sell, so I went it to pick some up for her. 45 minutes and $60 dollars later, I walked out carrying two bags of relishes, crackers, and moose munch.

I realized on my way over to the outlet mall that the proper route (meaning the sidewalk) to and from was much longer than the way the crow flies. Since I’m the girl who runs 10k races and does 120 minutes yoga classes, but drives around the parking lot for 10 minutes to find the closest spot, I decided to take the crow’s route back to the hotel. This requires me to cut behind the outlet mall and cross over a small snow bank back up to the hotel.

I’m sure you can guess what happened next…the snow bank = not so small as I found myself waist deep in snow after taking my first step off of it. After standing there assessing my situation for a few minutes, I decided that it would be much easier to trudge through the waist deep snow than to climb back up the snow bank and walk the long way back to the hotel. Another. Bad. idea. Basically it took me longer to work my way through the snow carrying two bags of overpriced snacks than it would had I taken the proper route. But it was almost worth it just to look back and see the imprint of my body and the two bags dragging along in the snow. The one time I didn’t have my camera.

Short Ribs and Big Apple Cocktails

Needless to say, I was starving by the time dinner came around on flight 69 last night. STARVING! Thank goodness they were serving my fave Delta dinner – short ribs. There are only three people that can whip up some irresistible short ribs – Mama Kearney, the chefs at Spice Market, and Delta. I’m not even kidding. And only cuz makes better mashed potatoes. Does it sound absurd to say that Delta’s short rib dinner is one of my favorite meals? Yeah – probably. Anyway, while I’m giving culinary props, I must give a mention to their newest signature cocktail - The Big Apple.

The Big Apple is a bourbon + apple concoction that is delicious. Wow! Who knew bourbon tastes even better when you mix it with artificial apple flavoring. Needless to say I ended up getting pretty sauced and passing out just long enough to put me in a semi grumpy mood by the time we landed.

Post landing I was met with both good news and bad news. Good news = Kansas beat those whiny Hokies! Bad news = the big meeting for which I'd flown out had been canceled. Plus the weather is too bad to go to Tahoe and ski. Double bad news. Looks like I'll spend the first weekend of the year indoor and working. Hopefully, this won't set the tone for 2008.

You Know You Travel Too Much When...

oIt’s the third day in the new year and the vacation is over. I’m currently on a plane heading out to San Francisco for five days of investment meetings and strategy work with my partners. I traveled so much in 2007 that EsselNYC said my New Year’s resolution should be to stay in town more. I agree. But in the foreseeable future, this is my reality – too little time in NYC, searching for Internet access while stuck in an airport, or alone in a Hilton watching college football.

Okay the last one is a stretch. Because there is no more college football (sniffle, sniffle) – at least for me. Preparing for this trip caused me to miss the Fiesta Bowl last night. I’m flying right now during the Orange Bowl. (I’ve asked the pilot to please keep me updated with the score. I really want VA Tech to get trampled.) And I will miss most or all of the National Championship game on Monday.

It’s ok. I’ll get over missing the bowl games. However, I may never get over today’s dining experience. While having lunch in the Terminal A Chili’s To Go (I know – glamorous life I lead), I found a dark curly hair in my salad three bites in. Gross. I told the waiter. He asked me if I wanted a new one. I answered him with “the look” and he nodded walking away quickly to get my check. Here’s the weird thing. He came back with my bill for $1.12. The manager comped my food. BUT – charged me for the tax. Isn’t that the weirdest?

Or is this the weirdest? As I was walking onto the plane (three hours late due to delays), one of the flight attendants called me by name and asked if I’d like her to hang my coat. Seriously. I fly so much that she recognized my face and remembered my name. EsselNYC is right. I need to make a point to spend more time in Manhattan.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!

and HAPPY GAME DAY!

I may hate New Year's Eve. But I LOVE New Year's Day as it's an all day college football fest and that makes me happy. Today is especially exciting as my Dawgs play tonight. I can't even think about resolutions today. All I can do is concentrate on TV and my desire for all SEC (minus Florida) to win their games.

Year in Review

Usually I take the time to recap the year with one big fat hot list. However, I’m so exhausted from the last four months of work and travel that I can barely remember what happened in 2007. And the only things I can clearly remember are things not worth mentioning…like my birthday totally sucking beyond all belief. Why is it that the sucky things are the ones that stick out most clearly in my mind?

Anyway, there are some things of the year worth noting.

I made a huge leap in leaving the corporate world to start my own thing with three business partners that were, at the time, total strangers. Launching our business has taught me so much about endurance, faith, trust, and venture capitalists. It has been the most challenging endeavor of my career thus far. And I’m really looking forward to what the new year will bring to our business.

I experienced heartache that I never thought possible. While this is one of those negative things that should be forgotten, it has some positive outcomes. I now know what it feels like to love someone to your full capacity. It gave me a peek into what is possible when you totally open your heart to someone. Though it would’ve been so much cooler had his heart not belonged to someone else. However, I learned to love AND that it is okay to be sad. And that you just have to let the sadness play out because it always gets better.

I saw some fantastic live music. Even though I'm the only person I know in NYC that missed the Daft Punk show. Thanks to EW, I discovered the Vanmega monthly mixed tapes which brought some great new music into my itunes. My favorite album of the year was The Reminder by Feist, even thought there is a song on that album I can’t listen to without crying.

I got to see my Dawgs stomp Auburn live. It was extraordinary.

My sister had major brain surgery this fall. This event brought on a feeling of fear that was almost suffocating. It was a feeling that clouded my world for weeks. Therefore it seems to be worth noting. She is fine and this surgery will probably change her life forever – which makes the whole thing worth it.

Finally, I’ve had more time than usual to spend with my amazing friends. I’m one of the luckiest people in the world because I have the best friends. Ever. And through my travels I’ve been able to see my non-NYC crew more often. My flexible summer schedule gave me more time to spend with my NYC friends, who, honestly, may be the largest and most amazing collection of people on the planet. We have the most fun.

Anyway, that’s all I’ve got. Now I have to get ready to go to a New Year’s Eve party which I’m dreading. Not because I don’t want to go, but just because I hate New Year’s Eve. Talk to you next year.

The Big 100 Gifts

...according to Neiman Marcus.

I love to shop. And though I ripped on them a few weeks ago (details), I love Neiman Marcus. One of my favorite things about the holidays is getting their Big 100 booklet. It’s as if the featured items were picked for me. It is too bad I couldn't find the time to look through it before Christmas so I could add some stuff to my list for Santa Claus. Here are a few of the things that would make the list:

- Valentino Patent Histoire Handbag (check it out) - $1,795: It would fit my laptop and an extra pair of shoes.
-Prada kit Jacket and Pants - $1,735 + $645: OMG! I would look so good on the slopes at Sundance sporting this get up. I wish it was still available at NM so you all could see how awesome it it.
- Christian Dior Purple Tote (check it out) - $990: If I were totally ridiculous, I'd get both the purple and the pink.
- Burberry Cape - $665: Amazing...trust me.
- Yves Saint Laurent Patent Leather Tote (check it out)- $1,895: Another handbag perfect for porting around my macbook.
- Gucci Clutch in gold (check it out) - $495.00: You could stomp around town wearing a potato sack and still look amazing if you were carrying this bag.
- David Yurman Sea Urchin Dog Tag (check it out) - $625: I actually love this one AND the dinosaur one. I heart David Yurman bling.
- Jessica Kagan Cushman “You're not the Boss of Me” Bangle (check all of them out) - $125: I say this all of the time...what a perfect accessory for me to wear.
- NM Exclusive Leather Jacket in teal (check it out)- $225: Only $225. It seems like a bargain. Maybe it's a typo. jk
- Burberry Slippers (check them out)- $150: Love these!!!!
- Fendi leather clutch in gunmetal (check it out) - $1,180: And I double love this!!!!
- Nambe Marupe Bowl (check it out) - $600: I've already mentally cleared a spot on my coffee table for this.
- Burberry Check Scarf (check it out) - $160: This scarf totally matches my snow boots.
- Juicy Couture Sequin Hoodie – $389: God, I love hoodies. I am having to put myself on hoodie restriction as I just realized I have over 20 of them. How did that happen???
- Tory Burch Tote in black - $425: I'm not usually fond of the TB wares. But this tote rocks!
- Prada Tote in brown - $1,595: This would be my everyday bag. Although I'm totally loving the bag I got for Christmas this year.

Grand Total of my Neiman's wish-list = $13,694. I need to find a rich Santa for next year.

I've always been a LA hater, but the past few times I've been there have made me see the light. Maybe I'm still high from the sunshine and fabulous dinner EW and I had, but I was actually sad to leave yesterday.

When I do make it back, I will be stay here, do a better job of seeking out LC and Brody Jenner, AND eat at A.O.C.

and OMG please eat at A.O.C. if you are in LA

It is so amazing!!! From the same folks that own Lucques, this small plate heaven isn't by any means light fair. This food was so perfect, I wish I'd worn sweat pants to dinner.

The things we ate that were delicious:
- three cheese platter (goat, cow, sheep)
- prosciutto di parma
- leek and cantal tart with thyme and pancetta
- balsamic braised brussels sprouts with pancetta
- oxtail shepherd’s pie with grated horseradish

The things I will eat next time that looked delicious:
- haricots verts, burrata and pounded hazelnuts
- fried oysters with celery root remoulade
- grilled skirt steak with roquefort butter
- chanterelles, ricotta gnocchi and sherry cream
- steamed fingerlings with crème fraîche
- cauliflower, curry and red vinegar

Our Gingerbread House

Final Product: Front Yard
Originally uploaded by weezienyc
I bought a kit to make a Gingerbread House thinking it would be a fun holiday activity for me and MES to tackle on our Saturday of Holiday Fun. The box said everything you need was included (except granulated sugar, confectioner’s sugar, cornstarch and a ruler) and it was labeled for ages four and up. How hard can it be? Maybe the older you get, the harder it is as it took us over 24 hours to get our house in a presentable state.

We started off on the right track with MES reading the directions and properly measuring the pieces of gingerbread while I whipped up the paste-like frosting used to hold the thing together. Once we loaded up the pastry bag, we were set to start building. Well, except during the initial construction, MES broke one of the walls. He was not keen on my suggestion that we just forego the fourth wall and build a gingerbread lean-to. So we “icinged” the wall back together and began the build. After hours of building and waiting, building and waiting we were ready to let it set so we could start decorating. And then it all came crashing down, breaking the other wall in the process.

We rebuilt the thing and let it sit overnight. Finally late Sunday evening we took a chance and started to decorate. We had some grandiose plans for our gingerbread estate. Some of the houses in the booklet look like they are straight up out of Southern Living, so I figured we could pull off something similar. No such luck, but the final result was quite so bad.

Honestly, I bet it is easier for a kid to decorate the thing because their hands are small making it easier to hold onto the little sugar decoration balls long enough to attach them to the house. Maybe next year we can find some kids to help us with the delicate decorating.

WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND!!!

Poor Petrino

Bless his heart. He's getting totally nailed from all sides on his decision to leave the Falcons behind and take the position as head coach at the University of Arkansas. I'm all about loyalty and dedication, but every ESPN newscaster covering the story this morning acted shocked and appalled at the news. Really? This isn't the first time a coach has left one team early in a contract to coach another. or the second. or the third.

And, quite frankly, I think Petrino is smart for getting the hell out of Atlanta. Good call, Petrino. Go Hogs!

The Hills

You'll only find this clip funny if you're willing to admit that you watch The Hills. Since I’m brutally honest about my recent liking of worthless TV, I can honestly say I thought this clip was so funny, that I watched it twice. Okay – three times. (Maybe Four)

I’ll be the first one to admit that this show is ridiculously lame yet I find myself a tad bit (read: very much) obsessed with it. I even watched the two-hour special this weekend, recapping Lauren Conrad’s journey from Laguna Beach to her current stardom in LA. It was two hours I'll never get back, but I HAD to see it. What is wrong with me? This show is stupid and I'm REALLY busy. But there are so many people I know that feel the same way, yet find themselves glued to the TV on Monday evenings.

There is something about the show worse than Spencer, worse than the poor acting and that's the grammar used by the show's stars/actors/pawns. I make grammatical errors often, but I get a pass because I'm not on TV. I thought Lo’s constant use of the word “romantical” in an episode a few weeks back was the worst thing I’ve ever heard. That was until I caught an exchange in the 2-hour time suck show between LC and Lisa Love, Editor-in-Chief of TEEN VOGUE, during her initial interview at TEEN VOGUE. This made my skin crawl:

Lisa Love: This job requires lots of writing.
LC: I love to write.
Lisa Love: Do you write good?
Weezie: (hits pause on DVR and screams at TV)Do you write WELL????
Seriously, Lisa Love – you are an editor of a magazine!!!!

Anyway, this just proves that I should be spending my time doing something productive instead of watching this half-scripted reality show. But I can't help it. I'm sucked in. And I can't wait to get home to watch the season finale!

I was right.

The jean shorts wearing Gator won the Heisman. McFadden came in second. Again. The only thing that will make today better is if the Steelers crush the Patriots this afternoon.

Dear Willie Parker,
I think you are amazing and have proven that there are some good football players that graduate from UNC. But could you do me a favor and PLEASE HOLD ON TO THE BALL THIS WEEK??????

It's almost Heisman time

Tonight the winner of the Heisman will be announced and I'm pretty sure that Tim Tebow is going to win. (Just typing that out made me feel sick. Ugh.)

Monday night is the awards ceremony. It's in NYC and I was actually invited this year, but I'll be out of town. While it would be cool to muck it up with the attendees at this event, the $500 ticket would be better spent on someone other than me, as I'd rather burn my shoes than sit through a ceremony honoring a jean shorts & keds wearing Gator.

If I could choose, I would not choose Tim Tebow because I hate Florida. I would not choose Chase Daniel because he's a whiny baby. I would not choose Colt Brennan because he wears jean shorts.

If I could choose, I'd select Darren McFadden. Why? Because he is the best running back in the country. In fact, I think he's the best offensive player in the nation.

But I don't get to decide. Hopefully next year's candidates will be more exciting and the winner won't be someone that makes my skin crawl.

The BCS isn't a mess...

...it's a disaster.

In my last post I touched on the chaos surrounding the selection process for the BCS bowl games - particularly around the at-large selection which would determine who gets bids to the bowl games aside from the National Championship game. That's because I thought that Missouri and West Virginia had the lock on the NCG. However, both Missouri and West Virginia lost their Conference Championship games yesterday. So now what?

Who are the number one and two teams in the nation?

Full disclosure: I'm one of the world's biggest Georgia fans, so I am totally partial to the bulldogs. So my two cents - whatever it is worth - is obviously clouded by the love and loyalty I have for my team. But here is what I think.

Going into last week, Ohio State and Georgia were numbers 3 & 4 in the BCS poll. One would think that since the number 1 & 2 teams lost yesterday that Ohio State and Georgia would move up, taking the 1 & 2 spots and play for the National Championship. But neither Ohio State nor Georgia played yesterday for their Conference Championships. So do they really deserve to be in the 1 & 2 spots?

If I put on my fairness cap, I'd say - No, they don't deserve to automatically move into the 1 & 2 spots. Ohio State is NOT the best team in the country, but they will probably move up to the 1 spot. And if that happens, Georgia should take the 2 spot. It isn't fair to move Ohio State up, not having played for the past two weeks, and not move Georgia up for not playing this weekend. But life isn't fair and this is what will probably happen.

Ohio State will move up to the 1 spot. And LSU will move up to the 2 spot, putting Ohio State and LSU in the National Championship Game. I like LSU. They are my second favorite team in the SEC and they've had a very strong season. The two games they lost (though they are still losses) were all lost in overtime. They've played great football in the most difficult conference in the country, beat VA Tech by 41 points, and won the SEC Championship. But I wasn't impressed with LSU yesterday in the Championship game. And I know I am biased, but Georgia would've whomped the LSU team that I saw play Tennessee yesterday.

Some people think VA Tech should be a contender. But COME ON! They play in a weak conference AND it bears repeating LSU beat them by forty one points. FORTY ONE points!!!

Oklahoma is also a contender. If LSU doesn't get the 2 spot, I'm hoping they do. They are good - no they are GREAT! And they beat what was the number 1 team last night. No wait - they crushed what was the number 1 team last night. CRUSHED! It was fantastic. (more full disclosure: I'm also an Oklahoma fan. They are my second favorite team in the NCAA. *not to be confused with LSU, my second favorite team in the SEC.)

If we put all of the computer scoring and voting aside, I'd say with all honesty that I think Georgia and USC are the best teams in the country and would make for the most exciting National Championship Game. Kirk Herbstreit agrees with me.

USC lost to Stanford, but they had a hurt QB. They've played a tough schedule and they're good. Really good. I firmly believe that USC could beat any team in the nation right now - even Georgia.

Georgia is one of the top two teams in the country right now. My reasoning is not based on loyalty or bias. It's based on these facts:
  • We play in the most difficult conference in the nation.
  • We are the only team that has won our last 6 games
  • We are 4-0 against ranked teams.
  • We beat Florida by 12 points.
  • We beat Auburn by 25 points.
  • We held Kentucky to 13 points.
  • We lost to South Carolina (sniffle, sniffle) early in the season, but that was before the BCS even started the voting process, so it shouldn't really count. (a little far fetched I know)
  • Jesse Palmer says Georgia is the hottest football in college football right now. And he is so hot that his opinion should count more. (ok - i know this isn't exactly an argument)
I've got one last point that I think is fact, but some (read: crazy people) may argue is just my opinion. Look at our roster. It's composed of 67 Freshman, 25 Sophomores, 23 Juniors, and 23 Seniors which makes for a young team that kicked off our season with a starting line full of freshman and sophomores. Of course it's going to take some time for them to gel. But because of Georgia's schedule, we didn't have time since we started playing conference games week two of the season. Georgia is not the same team that lost to South Carolina and Tennessee. If the BCS National Championship game is supposed to be played by the two teams playing the best football right now, then Georgia should absolutely play USC for the National Championship Game.

Again, I know this isn't going to happen and I'll just have to wait until the BCS selection show tonight to find out where the cards are going to fall. And I'm okay with whatever happens (unless VA Tech gets a bid to the NCG) as I'm certain our young team will get their chance to play for the National Championship soon...probably next year. Although I feel like we are always saying - wait 'til next year.

Go DAWGS!

The BCS is a mess

This is the first year I can remember when there was such uncertainty as to who was heading to a BCS bowl at this point in the season. For the past few weeks, I've been focused on the BCS rankings, whereas I'm usually more concerned with the rankings within the SEC. Why? Because as of today, Georgia is ranked 4th in the BCS poll which means it is pretty certain we will go to a BCS bowl. But if West Virginia and Missouri lose on Saturday, then Ohio State will definitely go to the National Championship and Georgia would be a contender for the open spot.

The whole selection process is pretty confusing. I was trying to explain it to a friend this weekend and while I was pretty much right about it, I checked out the official site to see how they explained the process. They only did a slightly better job, but here is what it looks like.

There is an automatic qualification which states that:

1. The top two teams in the final BCS Standings shall play in the National Championship Game.

2. The champions of the ACC, Big East, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-10, and Southeastern conferences will have automatic berths in one of the participating bowls after the 2006 and 2007 regular seasons.

3. The champion of Conference USA, the Mid-American Conference, the Mountain West Conference, the Sun Belt Conference, or the Western Athletic Conference will earn an automatic berth in a BCS bowl game if either:

A. Such team is ranked in the top 12 of the final BCS Standings, or,
B. Such team is ranked in the top 16 of the final BCS Standings and its ranking in the final BCS Standings is higher than that of a champion of a conference that has an annual automatic berth in one of the BCS bowls.

No more than one such team from Conference USA, the Mid-American Conference, the Mountain West Conference, the Sun Belt Conference, and the Western Athletic Conference shall earn an automatic berth in any year. If two or more teams from those conferences satisfy the provisions for an automatic berth, then the team with the highest finish in the final BCS Standings will receive the automatic berth, and the remaining team or teams will be in the pool of teams eligible for selection by the bowls as at-large teams.

4. Notre Dame will have an automatic berth if it is in the top eight of the final BCS Standings. (NOTE: I THINK THIS IS NUTS BECAUSE I CAN'T STAND NOTRE DAME AND I THINK IT IS RIDICULOUS THAT THEY'VE GOT SUCH A SWEET DEAL, UNFAIR THAT THEY ARE TELEVISED EVERY WEEK EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE HORRIBLE, AND THAT THEY DON'T HAVE TO PLAY IN A CONFERENCE)

5. If any of the 10 slots remain open after application of provisions 1 through 4, and an at-large team from a conference with an annual automatic berth for its champion is ranked No. 3 in the final BCS Standings, that team will become an automatic qualifier, provided that no at-large team from the same conference qualifies for the national championship game.

6. If any of the 10 slots remain open after application of provisions 1 through 5, and if no team qualifies under paragraph No. 5 and an at-large team from a conference with an annual automatic berth for its champion is ranked No. 4 in the final BCS Standings, that team will become an automatic qualifier provided that no at-large team from the same conference qualifies for the national championship game.

But some years (like this one) there aren't clear cut candidates for automatic qualification, so bids are given to teams that qualify At-Large which means the qualifying team:

A. Has won at least nine regular-season games, and
B. Is among the top 14 teams in the final BCS Standings.

No more than two teams from a conference may be selected, regardless of whether they are automatic qualifiers or at-large selections.

If fewer than 10 teams are eligible for selection, then the Bowls can select as an at-large team any Football Bowl Subdivision team that is bowl-eligible, has won at least nine regular-season games and is among the top 18 teams in the final BCS Standings subject to the two-team limit noted above and also subject to the following: (1) if any conference has two or more teams in the top 14, then two of those teams must be selected and (2) from the teams ranked 15-18, a bowl can select only a team from a conference that has fewer than two teams in the top 14.

All teams ranked in the top 14, other than those from conferences which have already had two teams selected, must be included in the bowl selections.

If expansion of the pool to 18 teams does not result in 10 teams eligible for selection, then the pool shall be expanded by blocks of 4 teams until 10 eligible teams are available subject to the two-team limit noted above and also subject to the following: (1) if any conference has two or more teams in the top 14, then two of those teams must be selected and (2) from the teams ranked 15 or lower, a bowl can select only a team from a conference that has fewer than two teams in the top 14.

And so from those two pools of teams, the selection process begins which goes like this:

The bowls will select their participants from two pools: (1) automatic qualifiers, all of which must be selected, and, (2) at-large teams, if fewer than 10 teams qualify automatically. The following sequence will be used when establishing pairings:

1. The top two teams in the final BCS Standings will be placed in the National Championship Game ("NCG").

2. Unless they qualify to play in the NCG, the champions of selected conferences are contractually committed to host selected games:

Atlantic Coast Conference-Orange Bowl
Big Ten Conference-Rose Bowl
Big 12 Conference-Fiesta Bowl
Pac-10 Conference-Rose Bowl
Southeastern Conference-Sugar Bowl

3. If a bowl loses a host team to the NCG, then such bowl shall select a replacement team from among the automatic-qualifying teams and the at-large teams before any other selections are made. If two bowls lose host teams to the NCG, each bowl will get a replacement pick before any other selections are made. In such case, the bowl losing the No. 1 team gets the first replacement pick, and the bowl losing the No. 2 team gets the second replacement pick. If the Rose Bowl loses both the Big Ten and Pac-10 champions to the NCG, it will receive two replacement picks.

A bowl choosing a replacement team may not select any of the following:

A. A team in the NCG;
B. The host team for another BCS Bowl;
C. When two bowls lose host teams, then the bowl losing the number one team may not select a replacement team from the same Conference as the number two team, unless the bowl losing the number two team consents.

4. After steps No. 1, 2 and 3 have been completed, any bowl with an unfilled slot shall select a team from the automatic qualifiers and/or at-large teams in the following order:

A. The bowl played on the date nearest to the National Championship Game (for 2008, Orange Bowl) will pick first;
B. The bowl played on the date second-nearest to the National Championship Game (for 2008, Fiesta Bowl) will pick second;
C. The bowl hosting the game that is played in the time slot immediately after the Rose Bowl game (for 2008, Sugar Bowl) will pick third.

The rotation noted in paragraphs A, B and C is as follows:
January 2007 games: Sugar, Orange, Fiesta
January 2008 games: Orange, Fiesta, Sugar
January 2009 games: Fiesta, Sugar, Orange
January 2010 games: Orange, Fiesta, Sugar

All teams earning automatic berths must be selected.

5. After completion of the selection process as described in Paragraph Nos. 1-4, the conferences and Notre Dame (BARF) may, but are not required to, adjust the pairings taking into consideration the following:

A. whether the same team will be playing in the same bowl game for two consecutive years;
B. whether two teams that played against one another in the regular season will be paired against one another in a bowl game;
C. whether the same two teams will play against each other in a bowl game for two consecutive years; and
D. whether alternative pairings may have greater or lesser appeal to college football fans as measured by expected ticket sales for the bowls and by expected television interest, and the consequent financial impact on Fox and the bowls.
..............................................................................

So there you have it. Both West Virgina and Missouri are playing fantastic football lately and deserve to play in the National Championship. But if they happen to lose and the BCS gods decide that Georgia needs to go to the big dance, it would more than make up for the fact that we lost to Spurrier at the beginning of the season.

Found on Craig's List

What am I doing wrong?

Okay, I'm tired of beating around the bush. I'm a beautiful (spectacularly beautiful) 25 year old girl. I'm articulate and classy.

I'm not from New York. I'm looking to get married to a guy who makes at least half a million a year. I know how that sounds, but keep in mind that a million a year is middle class in New York City, so I don't think I'm overreaching at all.

Are there any guys who make 500K or more on this board? Any wives? Could you send me some tips? I dated a business man who makes average around 200 - 250. But that's where I seem to hit a roadblock. 250,000 won't get me to central park west. I know a woman in my yoga class who was married to an investment banker and lives in Tribeca, and she's not as pretty as I am, nor is she a great genius. So what is she doing right? How do I get to her level?
Here are my questions specifically: - Where do you single rich men hang out? Give me specifics- bars, restaurants, gyms

-What are you looking for in a mate? Be honest guys, you won't hurt my feelings

-Is there an age range I should be targeting (I'm 25)?

- Why are some of the women living lavish lifestyles on the upper east side so plain? I've seen really 'plain jane' boring types who have nothing to offer married to incredibly wealthy guys. I've seen drop dead gorgeous girls in singles bars in the east village. What's the story there?

- Jobs I should look out for? Everyone knows - lawyer, investment banker, doctor. How much do those guys really make? And where do they
hang out? Where do the hedge fund guys hang out?

- How you decide marriage vs. just a girlfriend? I am looking for MARRIAGE ONLY

Please hold your insults - I'm putting myself out there in an honest way. Most beautiful women are superficial; at least I'm being up front about it. I wouldn't be searching for these kind of guys if I wasn't able to match them - in looks, culture, sophistication, and keeping a nice home and hearth.

AND THE RESPONSE SHE GOT FROM SOME DUDE

Dear Pers-431649184:

I read your posting with great interest and have thought meaningfully about your dilemma. I offer the following analysis of your predicament.

Firstly, I'm not wasting your time, I qualify as a guy who fits your bill; that is I make more than $500K per year. That said here's how I see it.

Your offer, from the perspective of a guy like me, is plain and simple a crappy business deal. Here's why. Cutting through all the B.S., what
you suggest is a simple trade: you bring your looks to the party and I bring my money. Fine, simple. But here's the rub, your looks will fade and my money will likely continue into perpetuity...in fact, it is very likely that my income increases but it is an absolute certainty that you won't be getting any more beautiful!

So, in economic terms you are a depreciating asset and I am an earning
asset. Not only are you a depreciating asset, your depreciation accelerates! Let me explain, you're 25 now and will likely stay pretty hot for the next 5 years, but less so each year. Then the fade begins in earnest. By 35 stick a fork in you!

So in Wall Street terms, we would call you a trading position, not a buy and hold...hence the rub...marriage. It doesn't make good business sense to "buy you" (which is what you're asking) so I'd rather lease. In case you think I'm being cruel, I would say the following. If my money were to go away, so would you, so when your beauty fades I need an out. It's as simple as that. So a deal that makes sense is dating, not marriage.

Separately, I was taught early in my career about efficient markets.

So, I wonder why a girl as "articulate, classy and spectacularly beautiful" as you has been unable to find your sugar daddy. I find it hard to believe that if you are as gorgeous as you say you are that the $500K hasn't found you, if not only for a tryout.

By the way, you could always find a way to make your own money and then we wouldn't need to have this difficult conversation.

With all that said, I must say you're going about it the right way. I hope this is helpful, and if you want to enter into some sort of lease, let me know.

Now I'm out in California for the DEMOfall show. We launched RelevantMind (our company) yesterday and this morning my partner and I presented our product to a group of 700 entrepreneurs. Our demo went REALLY well and we spent the rest of the day talking to VCs and the press.

The last few weeks of script re-writes and press interviews have paid off as we've been included in at least 30 articles and/or blog posts (we've posted links to some). It's been a great two days and I'm looking forward to tomorrow...although I'm totally exhausted.

This trip has been great for our company and has made me feel much better about the future of our business and confident that it was worth six months without an income.

I'm dying to read this book...

Although it sort of creeps me out that he wrote at least 80% of it while in the bath tub. It's just a mental image I didn't need and one I can't forget. And am I the only person in America that didn't know AG was married to Andrea Mitchell? Well, I'm sure Miss South Carolina didn't know that...at least I'm not alone.

No More Funk!

For the past few days I've been in a total funk. I was having the BEST day on Thursday only to have my mood squashed later that evening by a reunion for which I wasn't prepared. Then I woke up Friday morning with a horrible headache and (which I learned later at el doctor) a sinus infection And after a VERY long call with my business partner I started freaking out a bit a lot about the upcoming DEMO show. This is a pretty big moment in my career as I'll be presenting with my partner in front of the top dogs from the tech world and I'm so nervous about messing up or tripping coming off stage. On top of the sickness, work stress, and unexpected reunions, my sister had her second brain surgery in a week on Friday and, as of Saturday afternoon, was "not doing so well" and still in ICU.

Saturday night was nice, but I couldn't shake all of the things bouncing around in my head so I could really enjoy it. I made dinner for some of my favorite friends at Mr. Crowley's place. It was awesome because it was the first time I've served dinner in NYC for more than four people where everyone could sit at a table. It would've been a perfect evening if I hadn't been such a grumpy smurf.

But I was awakened this morning by the phone. And it was my sister! And she's out of ICU and doing GREAT! I cried happy tears for about 10 minutes and then reminded myself that life is too short to let yourself wallow in a funk. So I snapped myself out of it and ended up having an amazing day!

Hunt and I headed to Harlem for the African American Celebration Parade and Festival (photos here). At least once a month we try to plan an adventure and this is, by far, our best one. We watched the parade and saw some great step shows and band performances.

My favorite performance (f-forward in about 30 seconds to get the good stuff)...

African American Celebration Parade from Weezie McS on Vimeo.

And we ate some amazing food - including fried shrimp and grits at Fishers of Men.

We chatted with the owners for a bit and it turns out they're from my hometown. They've got a great story - one that I hope to include in my cookbook - about their secret seafood batter and how they turned this one recipe into three restaurants and a catering business.

After the festivities ended we headed back downtown, enjoying a nice ride on the 6 train with a guest entertainer who delivered an excellent a capella version of Whitney Houston's "Greatest Love of All." (sidenote: when laughing about it later we couldn't agree if the entertainer was male or female)

Hunt was in need of some hangover grub. Though I'd already had my fill of fried food for the day, I REALLY wanted some ice cream. So we made a pit-stop at The Shake Shack. The line was long, but pretty interesting as Chelsea Clinton was in front of us. That's no big deal really, but eavesdropping on the two Japanese tourists behind us was pretty funny. Here's a snippet:

Tourist 1: Is that Chelsea Clinton?
Tourist 2: I think so. But she got a nose job.
Tourist 1: I thought she was fat.
Tourist 2: No, just ugly

(By the way - Chelsea looked great)

Anyway, the long wait made us really hungry and my "just an ice cream" plan turned into a burger, cheese fries, and a delicious ice cream concoction called The Concrete Jungle.

It was a good great fantastic day. I'm totally fat and happy and having some much needed alone time while catching up with the Internets.

The past three weeks...

...have been nothing but a series of debaucheries. While I feel totally exhausted, I can't remember when I've had three solid weeks of continuous fun. It all pretty much got kicked off on August 16th with a random night out until 2 AM and ended (finally) this past Monday at 4 AM. I've been out 18 of the past 21 nights, clocking in at home past 4 AM for six of them and 6 AM for three of them. Amazingly enough I've participated in all of this craziness on top of actually getting my work done and not missing one day at the gym.

I thought I had somehow been taken back in time and was 21 again (though I was actually more well-behaved then) until I woke up this morning feeling like my body was shutting down on me...though I'd slept for 13 hours. Although we are moving into my favorite time of the year full of birthdays (mine included) and football Saturdays, I'm vowing to take a break, as to avoid feeling like I do at this very moment. In the meantime, I've got a hot-list full of fun to remind me why I'm totally worn out.

Highlights

The mojito crawl, the National at South Street Seaport, Meghan’s bday shindig, Forbidden Broadway, Labor Day shenanigans, visit from my Austin cuz, celeb spotting Jemaine from Flight of the Concords at Caracas, Aunt Mary returning to town, a fun-filled Friday night with Kooz, fun first dates, random Wednesday night dance party at Solas, Margs at Tortila Flats, Georgia football, spontaneous wine bar hop, and Australians (who can party like no humans I've ever met).

Lowlights
Discovering I SUCK at fooseball, having to bail on my trip to the ACL festival, hangovers, and missing a girls' weekend away.

Spotlight
Despite all of the outings, drink-a-thons and evenings with cute boys, the spotlight falls on the kickoff of football season. Most of my friends are shocked by my obsession with football. As one friend says, “it doesn’t fit in with the indie rock, tech-nerd, manhattan socialite thing you’ve got going on.” I think the shock comes because most of my friends equate die-hard SEC college football fans with white trash rednecks. And while I may have a subtle southern accent, I’m far from anything closely resembling a redneck. Anyway, I love football and I look forward to gameday Saturdays for the next 14 weeks. Georgia looked pretty good during the home opener and as long as they keep it up, I will be a happy girl and it will be a fantastic fall!

What I’m listening to
I'm still rolling through the vanmega mix. But I've been going back to the Odelay album quite a lot lately.

Anderson Cooper is hot...

I never really thought so before. But I watched the Oprah special on Katrina and now I'm on the "I heart Anderson" bandwagon. I couldn't find a good clip of him sitting on Oprah's couch talking about his dedication to rebuilding New Orleans, but this one is pretty good.

I love Tuesday

It is my favorite weekday.

Usually by the time I wake up on Tuesday mornings, I have recovered from whatever trouble I got myself into over the previous weekend. And so I get up early and head to yoga. After yoga I swing by the farmer's market and pick up whatever veggies strike my fancy and head home for a shower and breakfast.

Tuesday are the days where I work from somewhere in the city (besides my kitchen table) which helps me feel less lonely and forces me to actually wear real clothes during the day. I don't usually schedule calls and, therefore, end up getting about 150% more work done. Then I head home and cook whatever it was I picked up earlier in the day at the market.

It is usually a good day. Today it was a great day.

Forbidden Broadway

Last night I went to see Forbidden Broadway. It was amazing. And I'm not just saying that because it stars Hunt's brother, Jared. It was truly amazing.

The show is a simple, yet brilliant roast of all of the Broadway shows from Avenue Q to Jersey Boys. No show is safe from their witty and (most often totally justified) ridicule. While every scene was hilarious, two of them - The Lion King and Grey Gardens - were so hysterical that I laughed so hard I snorted...oh wait - no, that was Hunt! I'd give more details, but don't want to spoil anything for those of you who want to see it. Because you HAVE to see it!

Anniversary

Three years ago today I moved to NYC from Atlanta with no apartment, no job, and only one social connection. Amazing what can happen in three years!

What up hot list?

I've been back in NYC for about a week. All I can say is THANK GOD! It's been a pretty fun few weeks, though it has been super busy (and a tad stressful). Anyway, here's the recap.

Highlights
Trip back to Athens GA, bringing sexy back at JT, Court's new fantastic roomie, Kevin K being back from LA, seeing Ratatouille, eating arepas twice in a week, finishing Harry Potter, and a fun-filled Saturday which included - lunch at Caracas, The Simpsons, a failed trip to PS1, Water Taxi Beach, exploring Queens, a nice walk, and a yum dinner at Atlas.

Lowlights

Being one of the few that missed the Daft Punk show and discovering that "my bar" had become infested with a douche crowd while I was away.

Spotlight
This is going to sound weird. BUT I think the thing worth noting and applauding is the fact that a year ago this week I officially got out of my relationship with Either/Or...for good. There's something powerful in loving someone so much and feeling like you can't imagine your life without them, yet still having the strength to walk away from them. And I did that. I walked out. A year ago. And I am 987 times a happier, nicer, more sane person because of it. YAY!

Hotlist: 07.05.07

Not much going on here.

I've been at my parent's house for 4 days now and am pretty much bored out of my skull. But I'm well-rested. Last night I slept for 11 hours. The night before I slept for 9. It has been good to detox from the past three weeks of debauchery. I've got nothing else but the hotlist.

Highlights
Seeing Grey Gardens before it closed, Arepas (otherwise known as the best thing I've eaten in a really long time) from Caracas, impromptu Mojito Crawl, Cuz's new job, visiting with High School friends, hanging with mama, and not drinking for five days.

Lowlights
Not drinking for five days

Spotlight

Having my BFF in town for a long weekend. It was a great time, although I was a little grumpy from serious lack of sleep. But she put up with my grumpy ass and we laughed for five days straight.

What I'm listening to
Someone gifted this song to me on iTunes

They sent it from an email address I didn't recognize and signed "Guess Who."

Dear Guess Who,

Thank you for the gift. You reminded me that I love The Fratellis and this song, in particular. I have listened to it about 500 times. And even though it was driving me crazy trying to figure out who sent it, I'm just satisfied knowing that someone would think of me when they hear it.

I will follow him - Sister Act

EVERYONE has seen the Prison Thriller video. It still makes me laugh out loud thinking about it. And this one isn't bad.

I'm amazed that this is real or even legal, but I don't care as long as it keeps me entertained.

I have some questions:
1. What genius thought this up?
2. Who gets to choose which songs are performed?
3. Do they take requests?
4. How long does the choreography take?
5. How does one go about getting arrested in the Phillipines and end up at that prison?

I heart the Tighten Up Report

Monday I threw in a link to a blog post that pointed out some serious flaws with the holier than thou iPhone. Little cuz told me about this blog - The Tighten Up Report – to which some friends of our friends contribute. It sounded funny and like a good idea. Little did I know it is freaking hilarious and one of the most genius blogs on the Internets.

These 15+ writers make great use of blogging software to give whatever and whomever a heads up that for some reason they need to get it together – or tighten up. Every once in a while, someone gets a high five for being tight, but it’s usually just a series of hilarious and often cynical rants. A few of my favorite include:
Dear TUP Friends,

Thanks for creating a bright star in a blogosphere full of mostly crap. Just knowing that the stupid people/companies/etc I’ve encountered may be called out and ripped open on the TUP has made sucky experiences a bit more bearable.

Love,

Dear iphone fairy...puh-lease pay me a visit!!

I wouldn’t be able to call myself a real blogger if I didn’t pay homage to the latest and greatest topic among the blogwaves. Of course, I’m talking about the iphone.

I want one. Really. Really. Bad.

I told myself I wasn’t going to get it when it first came out for two reasons. First I currently have no income. So it makes no sense to shell out $700 for the phone and pay t-mobile $200 to get out of my contract. It would be unreasonable especially sense I have a perfectly decent phone that was the “hot new gadget” almost a year ago.

Secondly, I am a little bit of a gadget dork. And I always get them as soon as they come out...most often before everyone else. And while I'm the first on the scene with the cool toy, I usually have to deal with the first generation flaws. But the cool factor outweighs the headache. However for once I decided I wasn't going to jump on the cool gadget bandwagon. I was going to prove that I’m a big girl and I CAN do without. I CAN be comfortable in being the one who doesn't have the cool new toy. I CAN be the one that carries around last year’s news.

How i feel about the iphone!

But then everyone started getting them. And using them in front of me. And they were so pretty. And functional. And the earphones even fit my tiny ears.

And I felt like Veruca Salt from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
“I WANT IT NOW!”

But I kept my word to myself. And was even more committed to waiting when EW (one of my business partners who is also an early adopter) decided he was waiting too. A few weeks back we went back and forth for an entire day about it over email. Here are the excerpts:

(EW to Weezie)
I don't know much about garage door openers (I was having a problem getting my corporate mail on my sidekick…which he calls the garage door opener), but you should be able to set it to check your RM mailbox. That or you could glue swarovski crystals all over it like the kids at the mall.

I'm having trouble not getting an iphone. Maybe that is the solution to your problems?

E

(Weezie to EW)
I hear you on the iphone. I didn't want to get one b/c I'm always the first one to get stuff and end up getting the defective one. But this time, I'm not sure how long I can hold out. Plus, my iPod was stolen in SF, so if I'm going to replace that, I might as well just add in the extra cash and get the iphone, right?

I've been reading about it all day. Of all the things I've read - check this and this. If Eric Peterson can fold, it can happen to anyone.

(EW to Weezie)
Yeah - getting the iPhone does make sense. Besides, it is so damn cool. Have you used it yet? My only problem with it is that $700 for a cell phone is kinda retarded. You might as well buy the Vertu. Besides, $700 is only $500 less than the new watch I want.

I am going to wait a couple months to see if the battery issues get worked out. My only other hesitation is that for some reason it only keeps 200 emails. That should just about get me through a day and a half.

I'm waiting for now. Or at least until I pass an Apple store, slip / fall and accidentally buy one.

E

(Weezie to EW)
ok. Let’s agree we will wait. I’ll feel much better if I know I’m not the only one living without it.

BUT THEN LAST WEEK

I got an email from EW about a call we had scheduled. And the last thing it said was "call me on the Jesus phone."

And I knew at that moment, he had betrayed me. I was the only one left standing...all alone with no iphone. EW (or Judas) had caved.

Lately there has been a lot of this happening

Seriously...on a Monday!

I've been back in NYC for two weeks and it has been nothing but fun times. There's been lots going on and the weather has been generous. Here's the hotlist:

Highlights
Good things are happening with my new company, meeting new people and spending lots of time with little cuz, PS 1, Trout, Georgia's Eastside BBQ, fun dinner parties, new shoes, Whiskey Town (new awesome bar opened nine seconds from my apartment) AND I've developed a mega crush on a very cute boy.

Lowlights
Aunt Mary left town for a month and my crush has yet to fall in love with me.

Spotlight
Bastille Day!!!! It was the most fun. Although surviving the Monday after was horrible. Here are the pictures:

What I'm listening to
I'm still listening to the Spoon album, am trying to warm up to the Wilco album still, and have been giving the Elliott Smith "New Moon" Album some serious playtime.

Magnolia Bakery - tasty - maybe, clean - not so much

I know I'm late to the game on commenting on this but Magnolia was shut down last Wednesday for health violations - the main one being they were missing a sink. The article I read (check it here) gives the details of the other violations as well. If I were Magnolia, the health department, or a potential customer, I'd be more concerned about the rat droppings and fruit flies found near the trash than the missing sink in the icing area.

Regardless it makes me laugh because I think my cupcakes are better because my cakes don't taste like cornbread and I serve them on a tree!

New iPod

Don't Steal Music
Originally uploaded by weezienyc
I just purchased my 11th ipod. For reals, I’ve gone through 10 ipods.
1. 1st generation.
2. Traded up for 2nd generation.
3. Traded up for 3rd generation. Had him for a good while, but dropped him on the ground - broke city.
4 - 9. Bought the Video ipod, ruined it by erasing the hard drive with the hardware on my handbag. Blamed it on iTunes and Windows not playing nice.

After four more iPods realized my pretty Marc Jacobs bag was destroying them. Had Video iPod #5 for a while until I left it on a plane.
10. Bought another one and kept it until it was stolen three weeks ago in San Francisco.

I also have a shuffle and thought I could just use that little guy for a while. I was wrong. I caved. I had to buy another one. Today. The bonus (if there has to be one) is I got out of the Apple Store without buying an iPhone too.

What up? I'm back

Ok. You know when I said I’d by updating my blog more since I wasn’t working? Well, I lied. Honestly, I’ve had plenty to post about, but haven’t spent enough time at the computer share it all.

In the past 10 weeks, I’ve been to Columbia, Sarasota, Orlando, Nashville, Raleigh, White Lake (NC), LA, Chatanooga, Atlanta, Austin, and San Francisco. I’ve also been to Brooklyn more times in the past 10 weeks than I’ve been in my lifetime.

I’ve been vacationing, working on my cookbook and trying to raise capital for our new company. It’s been fun, yet exhausting and I’m sooooo thankful to be back in NYC. With that, I’ll leave you with a 10 week Hot List.

Highlights
No job, good dates, trips to visit friends, Den’s fun bday, so much fantastic music released, beach vacays, family vacays, coming back to NYC

Lowlights
One REALLY bad date, getting my stuff stolen in SF (totally awful)

Spotlight
The Bright Eyes show was probably the best I’ve seen in years. Mr. BE was great – he could’ve used a haircut, but he is still so damn purty! My love for MR. BE aside, it was a spectacular show. Gillian Welch was awesome. And Britt Daniel was hot and perfect and also awesome. And I was so close to the stage I could barely believe it. I was like a kid in a candy store…it was a perfect ending to what so far has been the best week of 2007.

What I’m listening to
The new Spoon album…all day long.
